The tokay gecko (Gekko gecko) is a nocturnal species with a wide distribution in Southeast Asia. It has expanded its range due to its popularity in the pet trade industry and its prevalent use in traditional medicine. Populations have been reported in localities that include Hawai'i, Florida, Curaçao, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. Here, we present the first report for the species in Puerto Rico. Two populations have been identified, both associated to urban areas. Proposed studies are focused on the population structure, reproduction, diet, and population genetics of this new exotic species for the Island. Studying this species' populations in Puerto Rico is important in order to determine the effects that their proliferation could have on the Island's natural ecosystems.
